The Uncertain Future of our Children

“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out Your hand against the anger of my foes; with Your right hand, you save me. The Lord will vindicate me; Your love, Lord, endures forever – do not abandon the works of Your hands.” – Psalm 138: 7-8

As a mother, I am always concerned about the future of my child. Does she have what it takes to confront the “real” world? Have I prepared her with the right tools for the future? Is she going in the right direction? But, of course, it doesn’t matter how hard I have tried and the sacrifices I have made to prepare her; I could never prepare her for what is going on in the world today.

Strolling through inconvenience and trouble

Am I concerned about my child as she prepares to spread her wings into the future? You bet I am. Pandemic, riots, shutdowns, racism, political views, and a lot more. The future is uncertain for all of us. But then I started thinking about David how he strolled through inconvenience and trouble after trouble. His Psalms express the battles and frustrations he confronted, yet he turned his focus to God. The way to his strong disposition was his solid conviction in the Lord’s character and faithfulness.

He promised He will walk with us at all times

We must depend on the Lord’s power. When inconveniences emerge, we can also trust God for deliverance; however, it may not be easy, and it may not happen right away. Sometimes He continues us through the trouble, calling us to “Be still” (Psalm 46:10), walking with us at all times so that we can depend and become closer to Him.

Like David, we all need to be positive about God’s purpose. The only way we can get through these troubled times and not be defeated by the enemy is by maintaining our attention on the Lord and His purpose the way David did. He has promised to do great work in our lives, and I am holding on to those promises because my life does depend on them.

So today, I invite you to place your faith in His promises, and like David, let’s all place our future and the future of our children in the Lord’s hands.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, please shower my children with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and direction throughout their lives. Like David, please give them the strength and courage to face the turmoils and challenges set before them today.  Keep them safe and protect them from any harm or evil intent that would lurk or attack them. Cover them in Your care and hide them in the safety of Your powerful presence. I ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen 🙏
